Rosie Mendoza, C.P.A., Chairperson

Rosie Mendoza is the current Chairperson of the Central Health Board of Managers. She has served on the board since 2005, and was most recently reappointed to the body in 2009.

Mrs. Mendoza is a Certified Public Accountant and a 1983 graduate of the University of Texas at Austin, where she received a Bachelors degree in Business Administration in Accounting. She currently serves as the managing shareholder for R. Mendoza & Company, P.C., with expertise in financial and governmental accounting, where she leads the attest services area of the firm. She has more than six years of experience as a comptroller of a major nonprofit entity and more than fifteen years of public accounting experience, including with the national accounting firm of KPMG. In her 25 years of service, she has provided audit and consulting services to a wide variety of clients including non-profit organizations, governmental entities and other commercial entities. She is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, Texas Society of C.P.A.'s, and the Austin Charter of Texas Society of Certified Public Accountants.

Mrs. Mendoza has been an active volunteer for numerous charitable organizations throughout her career. In addition to serving on the Central Health Board of Managers, she also serves as Treasurer on the Board of Directors of AVANCE, the Board of Directors of the Austin Geriatric Center, Inc., the Austin Community Foundation, and the Greater Austin Chamber of Commerce. In 2006, she also served as the Chairperson of the Board of Directors of the Greater Austin Hispanic Chamber of Commerce.

Mrs. Mendoza has also been recognized with a number of awards over the course of her career. In April 1994, she was recognized by the League of United Latin American Citizens as one of 15 outstanding Hispanic women in Austin for community participation and involvement. In 1998, she was granted the Community Service Award for Civic and Community Involvement by the Hispanic Chamber of Commerce in 1998. In May of 2005, she received the Girl Scouts' Lone Star Council 2005 Women of Distinction Award and in September of 2005, she received the Capital Area Democratic Women's 2005 Celebration of Champions Award. In July 2008, she was selected by the New Milestones Foundation/Austin Travis County MHMR as one of its 2008 Champion. The award honors individuals and organizations that have championed the cause of mental illness, developmental or intellectual disabilities or substance abuse use disorders. Also in 2008, Rosie received the Greater Austin Hispanic Chamber of Commerce “Your Health Matters” Community Service Award for Volunteer Leadership. She has also recently been named a charter member of the Organizing Committee for Senator Kirk Watson's “10 Goals in 10 years” initiative.

Mrs. Mendoza has lived in the Austin area since 1985. Originally from South Texas, she married Richard Mendoza in 1985, with whom she has three children: Antonio, Daniel and Raquel. She enjoys scrapbooking, gardening and spending time with her family.
