AUSTIN, Texas —The Central Health Board of Managers discussed Wednesday three preliminary budget scenarios for Fiscal Year 2027: a no-new-revenue scenario (keeping property tax revenue at its current level), a scenario based on a 6% tax increase, and a scenario based on an 8% tax increase.

Each budget scenario presented for consideration advances Central Health’s mission and builds on the strategic direction set by the Board of Managers through the organization’s Health Care Equity Plan, but differs in the pace, scale, and scope of health care services offered for uninsured residents and residents with low income across the community. Presenting these three distinct scenarios ensures the board can weigh expanded care access directly against taxpayer affordability.

The preliminary budget presentation comes during a period of strong momentum for the organization. Central Health is on track to serve more than 209,000 patients in FY2026—nearly one in six Travis County residents. Over the past several fiscal years, Central Health has launched and stabilized more than 30 specialty service lines, broken ground on landmark hubs like the Hancock and Colony Park Health & Wellness Centers, opened a Medical Respite Center for unhoused patients, and introduced the Central Texas Food Bank’s Mobile Food FARMacy initiative to clinical sites in Eastern Travis County.

What Comes Next

Following the July 29 presentation of the three budget scenario options, the Board of Managers will continue discussing the FY2027 budget proposals on the following schedule:

• Aug. 20: Fourth Quarter Update and Preliminary Budget Presentation to the Travis County Commissioners Court

• Sept. 2: Board of Managers Meeting: Formal Public Hearing*
• Sept. 9: Board of Managers Meeting: Final Budget & Tax Rate Vote*
• Sept. 15: Travis County Commissioners Court Hearing: Final Budget Approval*

Opportunity for Public Input at Aug. 31 Community Conversation

Central Health will hold an open house-style Community Conversation on Monday, Aug. 31 in collaboration with Travis County Judge Andy Brown at Austin Community College Highland Campus. Residents are encouraged to attend, ask questions, and share input regarding local health care needs to help inform Central Health’s FY2027 budget.
