Central Health-affiliated CommUnityCare Moving Colony Park COVID-19 Testing Location as School Campuses Re-open

October 30, 2020

(Austin) – With the start of in-person learning for the Austin Independent School District (AISD), Central Health-affiliated CommUnityCare is moving COVID-19 testing from Barbara Jordan Elementary to the Turner-Roberts Recreation Center (7201 Colony Park Loop) beginning Friday, Oct. 30, 2020.

COVID-19 testing will be available Monday and Friday from 8:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. at least through January 30, 2021.

“Like most of the country, Austin is seeing an increase in COVID-19 cases and CommUnityCare wants to continue to make testing as accessible as possible – especially in Eastern Travis County,” said Yvonne Camarena, CommUnityCare Chief Operating Officer. “However, when Barbara Jordan Elementary opens its campus Monday, we need a different testing location so we don’t interfere with students, parents and teachers getting back into the classroom.”

Central Health and CommUnityCare have been operating a mobile health clinic at Barbara Jordan Elementary for nearly two years, and added COVID-19 testing at the same location this spring. However, when the campus re-opens there won’t be enough space in the parking lot for the mobile clinic, COVID-19 testing, and traffic from parents, teachers and staff.

Turner-Roberts Recreation Center, operated by Austin’s Park and Recreation Department, is next to Overton Elementary School. People wanting a test will be directed to go around Colony Park Loop Drive to the recreation center to avoid school drop-off and pick-up traffic at Overton Elementary.

To find a testing location convenient for you, call the COVID-19 Hotline at 512-978-8775 (Monday – Friday from 8 a.m. – 5 p.m.) or visit http://centralhealth.net/covid19.
