Central Health, CommUnityCare Welcome Dell Medical School Residents to Their New Clinic at the Central Health Southeast Health & Wellness Center

April 1, 2019

(Austin) – The Central Health Southeast Health & Wellness Center is the new home of the Dell Medical School Family Residency Program as well as a new walk-in clinic, making thousands more primary care appointments available for people with low income.

The Dell Medical School Family Residency Program at the CommUnityCare Blackstock Clinic moved from the former University Medical Center Brackenridge campus at 15th and Red River Streets to the Central Health Southeast Health & Wellness Center on March 18. Blackstock was the primary training site for Dell Med’s Family Residency Program, operated jointly with Ascension Seton. Moving the program to the southeast location is expected to increase available primary care visit appointments at Central Health Southeast Health & Wellness Center from 12,000 to 20,000 annually.

Dell Med graduate medical students, who are doctors under the supervision of faculty members, train at Central Health-funded clinics because of an Affiliation Agreement between The University of Texas at Austin, Central Health, and the Community Care Collaborative – Central Health’s nonprofit partnership with Ascension Seton.

Also in March, Central Health-funded CommUnityCare opened its walk-in medical clinic at the Central Health Southeast Health & Wellness Center. Patients can get care without an appointment for things like colds, flu, or cuts, bumps, and sprains. A $730,000 grant from the Health Resource & Services Administration, an agency of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, helped pay to transform an existing meeting space into six exam rooms for walk-in care.

WHAT: The community and the media are invited to meet Dell Med family medicine residents, CommUnityCare staff, and a patient of the former clinic who relocated to the Central Health Southeast Health & Wellness Center. Visitors can also tour new clinical spaces and the walk-in clinic.

WHEN/WHERE: 11 a.m. – 1 p.m., Friday, April 5, at Central Health Southeast Health & Wellness Center, 2901 Montopolis Drive, Austin, TX 78741.
**Please text Ivan at 512-924-3859 when you arrive.**

WHO: Chief medical residents and staff from Dell Med and CommUnityCare staff.
