Central Health Honors Service of Departing Board Members Greenberg, Zuniga

(Austin) – Central Health’s Board of Managers honored departing board members Sherri Greenberg, M.S., and Julie Zuniga, R.N., PhD, FAAN, with a resolution during Wednesday’s meeting.

sherri greenbergManager Greenberg joined the board in Feb. 2015 and served as Vice Chair from Jan. 2018 to Dec. 2019 and Board Chair from Jan. 2020 to Dec. 2021.
She currently serves as a professor of practice and Fellow of the Max Sherman Chair in State and Local government at the LBJ School of Public Affairs at the University of Texas at Austin, also serving as a graduate student advisor.

Previously, she was a member of the Texas House of Representatives for 10 years. Her volunteer work includes working with the City of Austin Housing Investment Review Committee, Austin Smart City Alliance Board of Directors, the Austin Forum on Technology & Society Advisory Board, and the UT Opportunity Forum Steering Committee.

“It has been a great honor and privilege to serve the residents of Travis County and provide much needed healthcare,” Manager Greenberg said. “I deeply appreciate the dedication of the Central Health Board and staff, and community members. I remain committed to equitable, high-quality healthcare for everyone.”

“Sherri has provided extremely good leadership and stability to the board during her tenure,” said Dr. Charles Bell, Chair of the Central Health Board of Managers. “She has extensive knowledge of finance that has been helpful during our budget process as well as other issues that have arisen.”

Manager Zuniga, who will serve as treasurer of the board through the end of 2022, joined the board in April 2019.

A Fellow of the American Academy of Nursing, she was awarded the Early Science Investigatory Award by Southern Nursing Research Society in 2018 and the Young Researcher Award from the American Public Health Association-Public Nursing Section.

Dr. Zuniga’s work has on self-management of people with multiple morbidities with an emphasis on people living with the dual diagnosis of HIV and diabetes has been published in peer-reviewed nursing and multi-disciplinary journals.

“It’s been great to serve the community,” Dr. Zuniga said. “We’ve done some great work together, and I look forward to all of the exciting things coming in Central Health’s future.”

“Julie has brought a valuable level of knowledge from a nursing perspective,” Dr. Bell said. “She’s provided us with her expertise that we needed to consider for our policies and guidelines.”

Notice: The Travis County Healthcare District d/b/a Central Health adopted a tax rate that will raise more taxes for maintenance and operations than last year’s tax rate. The tax rate will effectively be raised by 6.0 percent and will raise taxes for maintenance and operations on a $100,000 home by approximately $5.47 (five dollars and forty-seven cents).
