Media Invited to Climb Aboard Central Health’s New “Clinic on Wheels” Friday

May 2, 2019

What: Central Health invites local media to tour a new mobile health clinic, which arrives Friday, May 3. The mobile health clinic is a part of Central Health’s strategy to bring more health care services to Eastern Travis County. The 40-foot bus will be stationed in Creedmoor and Colony Park beginning this summer – communities in Travis County lacking access to health care services. The vehicle features two built-in exam rooms, a lab, and a waiting area that can seat up to four people. Inside the mobile clinic, Central Health-funded CommUnityCare will offer primary care, preventive care, vaccines, lab services, chronic disease management, and limited pharmacy services.

When/Where:
1-2 p.m., Friday, May 3
Central Health Southeast Health & Wellness Center
2901 Montopolis Drive, Austin, TX 78741

Interview: Larry Wallace, Central Health Enterprise Chief Administrative Officer, will offer media a tour of the vehicle.

Visuals: Tour inside the bus of exam rooms, lab, and waiting room.

Background:
In early April, Central Health purchased the mobile health unit from CHRISTUS Health System in Houston for $280,000. The 2016 PHC Lone Star Diesel Motor Coach meets the Americans with Disabilities Act accessibility requirements. The bus will park at Turner Roberts Recreation Center (7201 Colony Park Drive) and Barbara Jordan Elementary (6711 Johnny Morris Road) three days per week, and at the Creedmoor Community Center in the Del Valle area (12511 FM 1625) two days per week. The days and times haven’t been determined yet, but will be announced once those decisions have been made.
