Opportunities to provide feedback on Central Health’s Fiscal Year 2022 Budget and Tax Rate

(Austin) – On Thursday, Sept. 9, Central Health’s Board of Managers will vote on the Travis County healthcare district’s Fiscal Year (FY) 2022 budget. Community members will have multiple opportunities to learn more about the FY 2022 budget or provide input prior to the Board of Managers meeting.

Travis County residents’ tax dollars fund healthcare for more than 1 in 7 residents with low income or no health insurance. Central Health dedicates 97% of its budget to healthcare delivery, including clinical and hospital services and healthcare coverage.

Below is a range of options for community members to provide input on the FY 2022 budget. The FY 2022 Budget Community Engagement Report will be posted online and shared with the Central Health Board of Managers before they vote on the budget on Thursday, September 9.

  • Thursday, Aug. 26, 11:30 a.m. (English), 1:00 p.m. (Spanish) – Community Conversation: Central Health’s 2022 Budget Central Health’s 2022 budget includes significant investments in health care delivery. Join the Community Conversation to learn how Travis County residents’ tax dollars help fund services for people with low income and no insurance. The event will be available through a Facebook Live stream.
  • Provide Comment or Ask Questions Online by Aug. 29 Members of the public can submit comments or questions regarding Central Health’s FY2022 Budget by 11:59 p.m. Sunday, August 29 online. The FY2022 Budget Community Engagement Report will be posted online and shared with the Central Health Board of Managers before they vote on the budget on Thursday, September 9.
  • Thursday, Sept. 2, 5:00 p.m. – Public Hearing: Central Health FY 2022 Proposed Budget and Tax Rate Members of the public who wish to speak during the public hearing must sign up by completing the Public Communication Online Form or by calling 512-978-9190 and leaving a voicemail 90 minutes before the scheduled start of the meeting.

Notice: The Travis County Healthcare District d/b/a Central Health adopted a tax rate that will raise more taxes for maintenance and operations than last year’s tax rate. The tax rate will effectively be raised by 6.0 percent and will raise taxes for maintenance and operations on a $100,000 home by approximately $5.47 (five dollars and forty-seven cents).

THE TAX RATE WILL EFFECTIVELY BE RAISED BY 6.0 PERCENT AND WILL RAISE TAXES FOR MAINTENANCE AND OPERATIONS ON A $100,000 HOME BY APPROXIMATELY $6.18 (SIX DOLLARS AND EIGHTTEEN CENTS).
