Medicaid overhaul in Texas and Travis County draws federal scrutiny

Federal officials, specifically Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS), are questioning whether Texas hospital districts violate federal law by using money from private hospitals to gain federal matching funds. Central Health’s Community Care Collaborative, the 1115 Waiver it employs, and its non-profit healthcare provider Seton are under scrutiny as a result. CFO Jeff Knodel and Seton’s Vice Chairman Greg Hartman voice reassurance.

Pay for Performance Extends to Health Care in New York State Experiment

This article covers a working experiment to transform New York State’s health care services for the poor from being disorganized and disjointed into a coordinated network, not unlike Central Health’s plan for the Integrated Delivery System. Recent word from HHSC shows interest in implementing a similar model for care seen in New York in Texas.

Notice: The Travis County Healthcare District d/b/a Central Health adopted a tax rate that will raise more taxes for maintenance and operations than last year’s tax rate. The tax rate will effectively be raised by 6.0 percent and will raise taxes for maintenance and operations on a $100,000 home by approximately $5.47 (five dollars and forty-seven cents).
