Board of Managers honors Dr. Donald Patrick

IMG_8568The Board of Managers, led by original member Dr. Tom Coopwood, presented a memorial resolution honoring Donald Patrick and recognizing his accomplishments over his six years on the board.

the docs-3A RESOLUTION EXPRESSING APPRECIATION TO DR. DONALD PATRICK FOR HIS SERVICE TO CENTRAL HEALTH

WHEREAS, Dr. Donald W. Patrick, M.D.,J.D. was appointed on July 20, 2004 by the Travis County Commissioners Court to serve on the Hospital District Board of Managers; and

WHEREAS, Dr. Patrick took his Oath of Office on August 2nd, 2004 at the first Central Health Board meeting, went on to provide immeasurable knowledge as a medical resource, and also to make tremendous, resounding contributions to the mission of Central Health in his six years of service; and

WHEREAS, Dr. Patrick dedicated his life outside our organization to medical leadership, serving as the Executive Director of the Texas Medical Board, the Chief of Staff of Brackenridge Hospital, and President of the Texas Association of Neurological Surgeons; and

WHEREAS, Dr. Patrick was also dedicated to military leadership and served in the U.S. Army as the Chief of Neurosurgery at the 24th Evacuation Hospital in Long Binh, Vietnam from 1967-1968, wrote a book about his experiences, and was awarded the Bronze Star for his dedicated service; and

WHEREAS, Dr. Patrick was a prominent civic leader as well, actively involved in establishing Emergency Medical Services for Austin while he practiced neurosurgery from 1970 to 2001, later serving as the Medical Advisor for Worker’s Compensation from 2010-2013, and becoming President of the Pflugerville School Board; and

WHEREAS, Dr. Patrick made friends from all walks of life through his many activities ranging from raising quarter horses, ranching, building and flying his own airplane as a licensed pilot, to running marathons, climbing mountains, and traveling extensively; and

WHEREAS, Dr. Patrick demonstrated his dedication to growth and education by becoming a licensed attorney in the State of Texas later in his life, and also in attending the Butler School of Music as a graduate student and violinist, continuing with lessons until his seventh decade, and becoming actively involved in the Knights of the Symphony, ultimately serving as the Lord Chancellor; and

WHEREAS, Dr. Donald Patrick dedicated his time, conviction, and knowledge in guiding the District and Central Health in its formation and direction, always with a dedication to helping others; and

WHEREAS, Dr. Donald Patrick proved his dedication to his role as a Board member, as a leader, as a humanitarian, and as a friend and family member and made tremendous contributions through his conviction and unwavering integrity; NOW THEREFORE,

BE IT RESOLVED BY THE BOARD OF MANAGERS, that we express our deepest appreciation to Dr. Donald Patrick for his service to Central Health and our community, and will miss him dearly.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Secretary of the Board prepares a copy of this Resolution for presentation to the family of our friend and colleague, Dr. Donald Patrick.

Notice: The Travis County Healthcare District d/b/a Central Health adopted a tax rate that will raise more taxes for maintenance and operations than last year’s tax rate. The tax rate will effectively be raised by 6.0 percent and will raise taxes for maintenance and operations on a $100,000 home by approximately $5.47 (five dollars and forty-seven cents).

THE TAX RATE WILL EFFECTIVELY BE RAISED BY 6.0 PERCENT AND WILL RAISE TAXES FOR MAINTENANCE AND OPERATIONS ON A $100,000 HOME BY APPROXIMATELY $6.18 (SIX DOLLARS AND EIGHTTEEN CENTS).
