Obituary for Dr. Donald Wood Patrick

Dr. Donald Wood Patrick, an original Central Health Board Member who retired after six years of service, has unfortunately passed away. Dr. Patrick also practiced neurosurgery in Austin from 1970-2001, was actively involved in establishing EMS services for Austin, and served as the chief of staff and chief of surgery for multiple hospitals.


 

States Find Savings Through Medicaid Expansion

According to two new reports, Medicaid expansion has boosted the budgets of participating states by aiding with care for pregnant women, inmates, and people with mental illness, disabilities, HIV/AIDS, and breast and cervical cancer. Without expansion and federal money, states would have to provide this sort of care using their own money.

Last Tuesday, University of Texas Medical School Dean Clay Johnston, Mayor Pro Tem Kathie Tovo, Central Health President and CEO Patricia Young Brown, and Civic Analytics’ Brian Kelsey convened as part of the Beer, Brains and Betterment panel series. They discussed the medical school and planned innovation district, voicing concerns regarding the need for community input, good timing, and practical planning efforts.

Notice: The Travis County Healthcare District d/b/a Central Health adopted a tax rate that will raise more taxes for maintenance and operations than last year’s tax rate. The tax rate will effectively be raised by 6.0 percent and will raise taxes for maintenance and operations on a $100,000 home by approximately $6.18 (six dollars and eighteen cents).
