Austin metro area surpasses 2 million residents

According to U.S. Census Bureau numbers released this past week, the Austin metro area is officially home to more than 2 million people, making it the fastest-growing metropolitan area with a population over 1 million for the fifth year in a row. Now the question is how the area will respond to challenges that come with explosive population growth.

Winstead: Seton investment in health care also good for our pocketbook

This opinion piece argues that although Seton has increased construction spending on the new teaching hospital by about $15 million, Seton and private donors are taking care of these costs, not taxpayers. The end product will be a place where all Central Texans can receive leading-edge, patient-centered affordable care.

Notice: The Travis County Healthcare District d/b/a Central Health adopted a tax rate that will raise more taxes for maintenance and operations than last year’s tax rate. The tax rate will effectively be raised by 6.0 percent and will raise taxes for maintenance and operations on a $100,000 home by approximately $6.18 (six dollars and eighteen cents).
