(Austin) – Central Texans looking for assistance enrolling in the Health Insurance Marketplace can get free help at the Central Health Southeast Health & Wellness Center and many other convenient locations beginning Tuesday, November 1.

Central Health – the healthcare district serving Travis County residents – and CommUnityCare’s onsite health coverage eligibility staff will offer enrollment assistance at the Southeast Health & Wellness Center. November 1 is an important day – it’s the beginning of the Health Insurance Marketplace open enrollment period.

“For many people, this is the only time of the year they can enroll in a health plan,” said Larry Wallace, Central Health Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer. “This year, rates have changed and there are new plans available. Additionally, the penalties for not having health insurance have increased. We know understanding health coverage can be confusing so we want to make enrollment as easy as possible by offering in-person assistance.”

CommUnityCare staff can also assist residents in applying for Medical Access Program (MAP) coverage and sliding fee scale financial assistance. CommUnityCare is Central Health’s affiliated Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC) system serving more than 80,000 patients per year. With more than 20 locations, CommUnityCare is Travis County’s largest primary care safety-net provider.

Enrollment in 2017 health coverage offered through the Health Insurance Marketplace will be available through January 31, 2017. Residents must enroll by December 15 to be eligible for coverage starting January 1, 2017.

Enrollment Assistance at the Central Health Southeast Health & Wellness Center

Assistance is by appointment Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. – 5 p.m.; and Saturdays from 9 a.m.-noon. Assistance will be available from November 1-January 31, 2017. Residents can call the United Way 2-1-1 Call Center, and press option “1” to schedule an appointment.

For the 2017 open enrollment period, Central Health is also continuing its partnership with EnrollATX, a coalition of community organizations and health care service providers working together to enroll Central Texas residents in health coverage offered through the Health Insurance Marketplace. The EnrollATX coalition includes Central Health, CommuniCare, CommUnityCare, Foundation Communities, Latino Health Care Forum, Lone Star Circle of Care, SRA and United Way for Greater Austin.

Residents may find additional enrollment resources by visiting www.getenrolledatx.com, or by calling the United Way 2-1-1 Call Center.
