For Dr. Wagen, Care Meant Answering the Call
August 1, 2025
Her calling led her to Central Health
Improving the health of our community is part of the Central Health mission. That’s why our system helps fund Dell Medical School: training passionate community members to become doctors makes health care better.
Dr. Brooke Wagen is one of those community members. She had the drive to care for those in need long before she became a doctor through Dell Med, choosing to spend her free time volunteering with Meals on Wheels and interpreting for Spanish-speaking patients at doctor’s offices.
Over time, Brooke found her desire to help her community and her interest in medicine were leading her in a new direction: becoming a doctor. Dell Med was the clear choice for her—she wanted to make a difference right where she was.
Brooke decided to dedicate her medical career to helping her community in Austin
Dr. Wagen’s initial medical work after graduating brought Central Health to her attention. She felt “it perfectly aligned with her vision for what she wanted to do with [her] new medical training.”
So, Dr. Wagen joined the Central Health Supportive and Palliative Care team
This role makes her the first Dell Med graduate to join the Central Health system. She cares for her patients with empathy and a listening ear, focusing on, in her words, “attending to what their most important concerns are.”
Dr. Wagen’s education at Dell Med didn’t give her a calling to help people. But it did give her the training she needed to make that calling impact more lives for the better.
