Care That Works Better: Central Health Invests in the Workforce Behind the System
August 19, 2025
AUSTIN, Texas — Central Health is investing in the people who power Travis County’s hospital district. As part of its Fiscal Year 2026 “Year of Access” budget, the organization is launching new initiatives to strengthen leadership accountability, improve team member satisfaction, and foster inclusion so care feels connected and not fragmented.
“This budget isn’t just about numbers, it’s about people and trust,” said Dr. Pat Lee, Central Health president & CEO.
The FY 2026 budget marks the first time Central Health, CommUnityCare Health Centers, and Sendero Health Plans–collectively known as the Central Health system– are planning together with shared priorities, goals, and accountability. While much of the “Year of Access” focuses on eliminating delays and expanding care, the budget also recognizes that great care starts with a strong, supported workforce.
Key Workforce Initiatives in the FY 2026 Budget
- Leadership engagement: Increase participation in system-wide priority key results (PKRs) to 75%, ensuring department leaders have the tools to achieve shared goals.
- Workplace satisfaction: Target a 2% increase in team member satisfaction, driven by regular surveys and follow-up with staff on feedback.
- Fostering belonging and inclusion: Aim for a 5% increase in employees’ sense of belonging, through launching new employee-led groups that affirm identity, celebrate workplace excellence, and recommend meaningful improvements.
These initiatives are designed to improve not just the work environment, but the quality and coordination of care for patients.
Why it Matters to Patients and Taxpayers
For patients, workforce investment means a smoother care journey, from shorter wait times to better follow-up appointments. For taxpayers, this translates to greater efficiency, less duplication, and a stronger return on their investment in Central Health.
“As always, budgets reflect our values and priorities. With your input and support, Central Health will continue to evolve and improve to better serve everyone who relies on us,” said Dr. Lee.
