About the program

The Neighborhood-Based Community Health Champions program brings together community members from areas in Travis County with limited access to resources. Our goal is to help participants become informed, effective advocates for fairness in health care access.

This program focuses on recruiting participants who have lived experience with challenges that impact access to services in local communities; including limited incomes, resources, access to education and transportation, as well as language and literacy barriers. This allows us to offer more accessible and focused support to meet the specific needs of our most vulnerable neighborhoods.

This program is designed by and for the community, and offers:

  • Flexible hours that can adapt to school, work, and childcare schedules.
  • Resource provision based on local neighborhood programs and services.
  • Materials and presentations in the language each community needs.
  • Your immigration status does not affect your ability to participate.
  • Possible hybrid sessions based on the needs of individual communities.
